Who is that ferosh girl you see in that photograph?
She is Joey Chua, and would be really familiar to if you were an avid fan of The Final 1, Singapore’s latest singing competition. She got through to the Top 40 round but that was not when MindChic Club! first noticed her.
We were impressed by her rendition of Hero that won her the Anderson Junior College AJ Idol 2012. Yes, she is a girl with a big voice.

During The Final 1, Joey once described her glasses as a mask to shield her from her insecurities instead of only an identity. AJ Idol was the first time she stepped out as a soloist and she said she ‘screwed up her rehearsals’ because of her nervousness.
“I really did not know how to sing alone on stage and the whole singing solo thing was so new to me!” She explained. “I still remember suffering from a sore throat on the day of the competition because I had stayed back in school and rehearsed all night!”
She added that she never thought that people would have voted for that ‘weird girl in the geek spectacles’.
Weird girl in the geek spectacles or not, it is obvious that Joey has an outstanding BIG voice.
Self-proclaimed ‘confused teenager’ as she is quite lost due to the new changes in her singing career, she hopes that she can find herself and her image as an artise be clearer to the public.
One ‘image’ she can portray is to become an inspirational figure to others. Joey admits that people are always trying to impress but have to learn to stay true to themselves.
“At the end of the day, I want to be inspiration to others and also a role model,” she explained. “I want people to know that they are beautiful the way they are.” (*Cue Christina Aguilera’s song - ‘Beautiful’ : I am beautiful, no matter what they say )
Where to Catch her ?
Before we end the interview, Joey would like to thank some of her friends, family and friends-
“I would really like to thank my family and friends for their endless support. My friends really do have the faith in me and I never do thank them enough for it.” Joey said.
“I would also like to thank my secret fans who are honestly hidden and once in a while, they tweet me the sweetest messages. You guys make me smile!”
