Singapore, 26 April 2011 – Ladies in Singapore who are keen to take motorsports to another level above recreational now have the opportunity to do so with CTMC2! Racing – a racing initiative by prominent motorsports personality Cheryl Tay and MindCHIC Club!
(MC²!), a sports and hobby community platform. Financially supported by MC²! and managed by Cheryl Tay, two teams will be sponsored under the umbrella of CTMC2! Racing – CTMC2! Racing Stars, an all-male team and CTMC2! Racing Angels, an all-female team. Both teams will be racing in the inaugural OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge 2011, a four hour kart endurance race series to be held at Kartright Speedway.
Featuring familiar names in the karting scene, the drivers of CTMC2! Racing Stars have already been determined. With only one seat taken in CTMC2! Racing Angels by Cheryl Tay, the remaining five seats will be determined through an audition at Kartright Speedway on 28 April 2011, Thursday at 7.00 pm. The audition is only open to previous attendees of
Ladies’ Night @Kartright, a female-only karting class created and hosted by Cheryl Tay.
Interested candidates will be interviewed before getting on track for practice, qualifying and a race for the top 10 fastest timings – a similar format of Ladies’ Night that they are already familiar with. Selection will not be based only on driving skills and speed, but also on attitude, ability to commit and knowledge of motorsports, among a comprehensive set of
criteria. The five-person judging panel will consist of Cheryl Tay, Richard Chai, Business Development Director for MC²! as well as Singaporean international racing driver Gerald Tan who has been coaching at Ladies’ Night @Kartright.
"We have held four Ladies’ Night @Kartright sessions since February and lots of great talent have been spotted. The objective of Ladies’ Night @Kartright is to provide a female-friendly platform for women to help get them started in motorsports, at the most fundamental of it
all, at go-karting,” said Cheryl Tay.
“Now we are offering the chance to go beyond this leisure level, to give them a chance to get out of their comfort zone and into the male-dominated field, to race alongside these aggressive men. This overall all-female initiative is to encourage more women to embrace the testosterone-heavy sport and is targeted at women with drive to step up and blaze the track with their enthusiasm, rather than just watch from the sidelines,” she added.
“While helping Cheryl in her quest to help more ladies develop their interest in motorsports, we hope to see women regularly winning local and foreign races within the next three years. CTMC2! Racing is the first of many beginnings and hopefully it will motivate more people, not just women, to take a deeper interest in motorsports,” said Richard Chai.
Ladies’ Night @Kartright will continue to be held every month at Kartright Speedway, as a platform for new friendships of like-minded passion and a regular dosage of racing fun. Studies have shown that, among other reasons, many people eventually give up on a sport or hobby because of the lack of a support group to discuss tips, share experiences and organise friendly competitions. Hence, Ladies’ Night @Kartright hopes to achieve a closely-bonded community of friendships on and off track, one which appreciates and understands motorsports.
