With a captive audience of over 130 million Instragram users, it comes as no surprise when it was revealed that the new video service had surpassed a staggering five million uploads in the first 24 hours of its release last month.
Since then, Instavideo-fever appears to be on an upward trajectory here, especially amongst youths like home-grown singer-songwriter Ruth Miaoru (@ruthmiaoru). The 22 year old mainly uses Instavideo as a means to connect with her fans and has uploaded more than five of what she calls ‘Singstagrams’ – Instavideos of her singing.

She even accepts song cover requests from her Twitter followers as “it’s very easy to just upload a video at any time of the day,” and is more spontaneous as than uploading a YouTube video. As a result, “it motivates me to create more content in a shorter time.” Says Miaoru.
The simplicity and speed at which one is able to slice and piece together 15 seconds worth of footage before uploading it to their Instagram page is exactly what users love about Instavideo. Coupled with a selection of thirteen new and beautifully artistic filters, it’s hard not to go crazy with the new video function.
“I’ll cover a song that is more popular… as most of my followers will also be able to relate to the song.” Says Miaoru.
It’s a formula that works well for the talented Miaoru.
Her first ‘Singstagram’ – a cover of Kimberly Chen’s
爱你 – is the most ‘liked’ post on her Instagram with more than 70 ‘likes’.
Unlike Miaoru's Singstagrams, not all moments are as Instavideo-worthy as we believe them to be. Trust me on this one, guys. Stopping dead in your tracks to take a video of ants crawling up a tree is, if you must label that as a "moment", is perhaps one that calls for a face-palm. Granted that the video perhaps just be for one's personal entertainment.
Well, have you ever wondered how you can utilise Instavideo as a means to connect and engage with others on a more creative level?
Besides Singstagrams, movie trailers are also making their debut on Instavideo.
Check out the third and latest trailer for "Jobs" (above), an indie film about the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs, which is quickly making its rounds on Instagram and has garnered close to a thousand ‘likes’ just three days after its release!
Of course, who can miss out on social media, pop star Justin Bieber who achieved yet another milestone in his career by being the first Instagram user to hit
1 million ‘likes’ on a video post.
Methinks his first Instavideo he could’ve had more substance though.
