Summer in Japan is ridiculously hot, as you would have learnt from Austin’s post "Is Tokyo actually warmer than tropical Singapore?" Thankfully, there is one upside: Summer Food!
I’d like to introduce my five summer-only foods:
1. Calpis Cream Puff
While I don’t normally like prepackaged cream-puffs, I decided to try one so that I could tell you about it. :)
Will I eat this again? Not likely – but that’s because I don’t like the pastry.
2. Calpis Bun
While there are many more Calpis-related product (I saw Calpis spread, think Nutella but Calpis), I only tried one more. After all, I like Calpis as a drink, not a food:
The Verdict: This was actually pretty good. It reminds me of Fatt Gao (Steamed prosperity buns), with a hint of Calpis flavor. It’s really really soft, and I liked it.
Will I eat this again? Probably. It’s definitely an option for when I want a snack, but nothing too heavy.
3. Potato Chips
The Verdict: It tastes…. Normal. The chips aren’t as crispy as I would like (it crumbles quite easily), but it’s by no means soft. The salt tastes normal, but then again, my palate isn’t very refined.
Will I Eat It Again? Nah. I may buy this back because of the novelty value, but if I’m craving normal salted chips, I already have a preferred brand.
4. Papa Crepe Milk - Biwa
The Verdict: Love the crepe! My only complaint is that there seems to be a little too much crème, and it does tend to overwhelm.
5. Kakikoori Ice Cream Stick
This is what I’ve been waiting for since summer ended last year.
Will I eat this again? I’m not sure. I’ve been seeing a bunch of really cool jelly around. Let me continue um, taste testing them first(;
