The week before I came back, I went to Tokyo. Going to Tokyo, well, it felt a bit like coming home. So did coming back to Fukuoka (by the way, you can read a bit about my Tokyo Trip here :). Coming back to Singapore felt unusually unemotional by comparison. I imagined tears of joy, but I just smiled this small smile and started talking a mile a minute in an effort to update my family on what's been going on.
After one and a half years of living in Japan, it's come to feel sort-of like home to me. I say sort-of because I'm still very aware of my foreigner status. But Singapore also has the sort-of home feeling.
Perhaps this is something that all foreign students go through: the sense that we don't belong anywhere, but yet belong to more than one place.
I'm going to miss my friends in Japan and my life in Japan. But while I'm back, I plan to enjoy whatever Singapore has to offer.
